Why Sustainable Timber is Vital For Your Doors

Today we’re talking about the importance of using sustainable timber for your wooden doors – why? Because we believe it’s important we all play a role in contributing towards protecting the environment. We all know that trees play an integral role in capturing Co2, and this is important because it’s Co2 that’s causing all the problems with an increase in the atmosphere. Co2 emissions are one of the biggest causes of global warming.

And yes global warming leads to climate change, so it’s important we all try to play our part, no matter how small a part that is. That’s why here at The Replacement Door Company we advocate the use of sustainable timber for all wooden doors.

What difference does sustainable timber make?

Co2 is captured by trees as they grow, and it’s locked away within the wood where it’s stored for the entire lifetime of the timber – whatever product it becomes. Sustainable timber then does a very important job in taking Co2 out of the atmosphere, and thus helps to reduce the impact of global warming on the planet.

What are the benefits to you of using sustainable timber?

You get better insulation because wood has great thermal properties, and this means that not only is your home kept warm in winter, it’s also kept cool in summer. Sustainable timber also helps the British economy by providing jobs in the timber processing and forestry industry. It takes less energy to produce products made of sustainable timber and due to its unique properties, you can create some beautiful designs. That way, you get to do your bit for the planet and you get beautifully crafted wooden doors.

Versatile as well as sustainable

Sustainable wood is extremely versatile and isn’t just used on doors. You can use sustainable timber for sheds, doors and sheet materials. You could have a suite of wooden doors that will last a lifetime, so you’ll get back what you invested over the years.

Finally, because sustainable timber is so important to the planet, forests are well managed and as a result, have a positive impact on biodiversity. This means that plants and animals are protected too. Look out for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a certification scheme which sets the highest standards for the use of sustainable timber.

What Should You Consider When Purchasing an External Door

External doors have to put up with a lot as they face the outside world, the weather and the light, dust and grime from cars if you’re near a busy road, and of course they also have to double up as bodyguards, giving your home, your family, safety and security from the world outside.

Today, we’re looking at what you need to consider when purchasing an external door. That way, once you come to make a purchase you will have all you need to make a decision that makes sense, to your house, your needs and your wallet.

There’s a Lot To Think About When Choosing New Exterior Doors

When thinking about buying a door you need to consider what it’s made of and whether it will give you adequate protection. It needs to be able to withstand rain, wind and frost and also be strong enough so that it’s impossible to break in. Talk it over with your retailer about the best type of door that’s right for your home and incorporates all the features we’ve talked about. Remember that it needs to be able to insulate your home and prevent too much noise from coming in. This is especially important if you live near a busy road.

Style and Matching The Door To Your Home

You’ll also need to consider style as it needs to match the architectural design of your home. A modern door on a house with classic design will look odd and out of place, as will a classic door with a contemporary build. You want to marry the styles perfectly, so it complements the front or back of your house. At the front, people will see the entrance to your home before anything else and before you’ve had a chance to greet them and first impressions count. Make sure your door is up to the job and that it stylishly welcomes all who come to the door. The right door could make all the difference if you’re trying to sell your home, or you’re thinking of selling in the future. Think curb appeal.

Make Sure Your Door Fits Perfectly

You’ll need to make sure it’s fitted properly, the last thing you need is a poorly fitted door that doesn’t marry with the door frame well. This could lead to problems later on and cause security issues. If you don’t think you want to tackle it yourself ask someone who is experienced at doing this kind of thing, or a professional joiner.

The Replacement Door Company – For Superior Quality Doors Scotland

No matter what type of external doors you’re after, you want quality and superior craftsmanship, and with us, that’s exactly what you get. If you’re after first class, quality external doors for your home, then get in touch with us here at The Replacement Door Company because we can meet your exact requirements. Try us, you won’t regret it.

Right Handed and Left-Handed Doors

If you’re installing doors yourself you may find the right hand and left-hand doors thing a little too hard to work out, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’re always here to help, and in this post, we’re going to talking about the right way to get it right first time.

If you’re installing doors yourself you may find the right hand and left-hand doors thing a little too hard to work out, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’re always here to help, and in this post, we’re going to talking about the right way to get it right first time.

Firstly, before you do anything, stand against the hinged side of your door jamb, with your back to it. If it opens to the right you’ll be safe to conclude this a right-handed door, and vice versa if it opens to the left.

There is something else you can try too and that’s standing facing the door this time on the side that swings away. This bit might seem a little strange (especially if you’re alone!) but hold up your hands and think of your wrists as hinges with your hands as the doors. If the right-hand swings with your wrists/hinges, then it’s a right-handed door and if your left hand and wrist match the left then it’s obviously a left-handed door.

If you’ve checked out our doors at The Replacement Door Company, then you may be still confused. This is because if you’re not ordering your doors in person but either online or on the phone it’ll be hard to work out what you need. You will be asked whether or not you want right handed doors or left-handed ones that swing either outward or inward. As you can imagine it’s probably better if you order your doors in person and discuss with a member of the team what kind of doors you’re looking for.

It’s important to consider which way the doors are going to open because you may have something inside or outside the door that will cause an obstruction and make it difficult to open and shut the door.

The Replacement Door Company – For The Best In First Class Doors In Scotland

This is why here at The Replacement Door Company for we take the time to make sure all our customer’s doors are a perfect fit. You need doors but perhaps you’ve only been thinking of timber external doors. There are alternatives to wood and composite is a more than excellent one. If you’re yet to be convinced, then today our post might make you feel differently about this versatile material. We’re going to be talking about the benefits of composite doors so read on and hopefully you’ll be convinced by the time you’ve finished reading.

Composite Doors Can Look Every Bit as Authentic and Stylish as a Traditional Timber Door

Afraid they look cheap? Well, you couldn’t be more wrong, if you give your composite door a woodgrain exterior you’ll have a traditional looking door but with modern materials. We have a versatile range of designs here at The Replacement Door Company therefore you’re more than likely to get an expensive looking door but for less.

Functional and Durable

Composite doors are a great choice because they’re both functional and durable, and very strong. They come with a foam core which acts as an insulator and combined with a really strong outer frame, they make for strong and reliable doors. If you’re looking for a door that will give you sound and energy insulation as well as security, then a composite door is by far the best choice.

Great Insulation So You’re Always Warm and Cosy

As we’ve already mentioned composite doors are great insulators, heat can’t escape and cold can’t get inside so you’ll not only have a warm home, you’ll also have cheaper energy bills. You’ll have a warm, secure home that keeps the cold out and the warmth inside as well as providing a strong exterior protection from potential burglars.

Forget The Noise

Because composite doors are so strong they can block out a substantial amount of noise as well as keeping the cold out. Therefore, if you live in a busy street, and with heavy foot traffic, then a composite door is the answer. Noise is significantly reduced so you can have a quiet home devoid of loud noises from traffic and footfall.

Have we got you convinced? We certainly hope so, and you’ll be pleased to know that here at The Replacement Door Company, we have a versatile and stylish range of composite doors, you can have them plain for you to paint yourself at home, or you can have them ready made and ready to fit. Interior Design Trends in 2018

Today we’re taking a look at interior design trends for 2018, so if you’re thinking of buying some interior doors within the next few weeks or months, then this post should be helpful. We always like to keep our customers in the know when it comes to particular styles or trends.

Getting all the elements right isn’t easy, and whatever theme or set of ideas you go with, you want your doors to play an integral part in all of that. Interior doors don’t have to be added as an afterthought though, they can give your home that full stop to every room that helps complete the overall look, giving your home a seamless finish.

Bold Colours

Colours are big in 2018, so if you’ve been into neutral colour so far, will you be daring enough to choose something bolder? You could keep your walls a light colour but choose doors which add a splash of colour. Blues, greens and reds are all possible and could give your rooms a certain vibrancy. Add accessories in equally bold colours and create something that bit more daring.

Mixed Finishes, Wood and Metals

Mixed finishes are going to be in vogue this year, with metals and wood, or different types of metals all working together. You could have some solid wooden doors and have copper, bronze accessories, or brass and gold, something which compliments the wood grain in the doors.

Make Your Room a Haven of Peace, a Place That Makes you Feel Good

There’s going to be more originality in interiors too this year, with a move away from generic rooms, with ideas taken from magazines and based more on personal taste. It’ll be all about how a room makes you feel, not about how it looks to other people. So, choose doors that match your room and your personality, and how you want them to make you feel, rather than whether they match a particular theme.

Vintage Accessories

Vintage accessories are going to be in. This could be anything from a few little showpieces to one large centrepiece. Which era will you choose? Perhaps you’re going to go with art deco or maybe Victorian? You could have vintage doors or reproduced, something with a touch of the era you’re working with. Keep everything else modern if you wish, you don’t have to have an entire room or the rest of your home exactly the same.

Replacement Door Company – For Quality on Trend Doors Scotland

If you’re looking to change your interior doors to fit in with any new trends for 2018, then you couldn’t do better than visit us here at the Replacement Door Company for we have an excellent range of doors to fit every style.

Things to Consider Before Investing in New Doors

Having new internal doors throughout your home can really lift the entire house without redecorating or refurnishing, therefore choosing well is important. Today we’re going to be talking about what you should consider before investing in new doors. As well as being aesthetically pleasing you want doors which are practical and suited to your home’s architectural design and décor. You want doors which enhance each room and the use of space.

How Durable Will Your Doors Be?

How long a door lasts or how durable it is will largely depend on how often it’s used. And, of course, the room it enters, if it is either a kitchen or bathroom you will need doors with specific materials to repel water and humidity. Rooms such as these may benefit from glass panels rather than solid materials throughout.

Style and Design Are Key Considerations

Keep in mind the type of property you live in, whether it’s mysteriously Victorian Gothic or thoroughly modern and minimalist, you’ll need to choose doors which fit in with the overall style of the property. If you choose something minimal for an ornately designed home, then it’s going to look out of place and vice versa.

What Type of House Do You Have?

Consider then the period your home was built and what may have been popular at that time. It could be something Victorian, Georgian or 1930s art deco. You can get modern versions, or you could go for something original from the particular period you’re searching for.

What is Your Budget?

Something else to factor in is your budget, going for a period door may not be an option if you have less to spend. You may have to go for a door that mimics the style you’re looking for but is made from cheaper materials. This isn’t such a bad thing, contemporary made doors are often made from sturdy material, just because it isn’t wood doesn’t mean it won’t be as durable.

Will You Be Needing Soundproofing?

Also, think about soundproofing. This is an important consideration, depending on the size of your family, you may have different people in other parts of the house listening to music, or playing an instrument, or playing computer games. You may also want soundproof doors for reasons of privacy too.

Replacement Doors Company For The Best in Quality Internal Doors, Scotland.

No matter what the style of your house, or whether you need moisture resistant doors or soundproofing, here at The Replacement Door Company we have something for everyone. We believe that our versatile range of doors will suit everyone’s tastes and needs wherever they live. Why not give us a call or visit our showroom and we can take it from there, we’re always here to help.

Why Oak Doors Are Perfect for Your Home

Today we’re talking about oak doors, and with good reason, for they are the perfect door for your home. Classy, with a touch of traditional, oak can transform your home from average to superior. Read on to find out how oak doors can make all the difference to your home and add a touch of class to any room.

Today we’re talking about oak doors, and with good reason, for they are the perfect door for your home. Classy, with a touch of traditional, oak can transform your home from average to superior. Read on to find out how oak doors can make all the difference to your home and add a touch of class to any room.

Durability and Cost Effective

Before we discuss the aesthetics of an oak door, let’s look at all the practical reason why an oak door is such a great idea. For one thing, oak doors are durable and last a very long time, so the initial investment is worth it. A cheap manufactured door won’t offer value for money over time, you’ll just be left with a door that wears out a lot quicker, so it’s a false economy.

Insulation

Insulation is important in keeping your rooms warm and keeping the cold out. Oak doors will help keep the heat in and the cold out once those cold winter evenings start to kick in. You’ll also find this works in reverse in keeping heat out and the coolness in once the summer humidity arrives.

Noise Reduction

You’ll also find that oak doors provide great noise reduction, so once you’ve closed it, you won’t hear music or conversations going on in another room. You can be alone with your own thoughts or your own music going on, privacy will reign supreme! This is an especially good idea if you live near a busy street and you can hear footfall and chatter easily. Oak doors will provide their own acoustic magic and help keep the noise down to a minimum.

Aesthetics

On an aesthetic level, oak doors really bring out the best in floors, especially if you have wooden flooring, in fact they’re great in complimenting your furnishings and the walls. They pretty much fit in with whichever colour scheme you have going on, bringing out the best in whatever shade you’ve decided on.

For The Best Selection, Design and Quality.

Here at The Replacement Door Company we have a wide selection of oak wooden doors and we provide a versatile range of designs. You can have panelled doors, doors with glass panels, frosted glass, clear glass and any other type of design, perhaps a plainer one if you’re looking for simplicity to match a minimalist theme going on.

The Replacement Door Company – For The Best in Oak Doors in Scotland.

As we’ve already touched on, here at our HQ we have one of the largest range of oak doors and we pride ourselves on the quality and workmanship of each one. Why not take a look at our stock and then get in touch by visiting our showroom, you won’t be disappointed.

Reasons to Invest in a Bespoke Door

You’ve heard that first impressions count a million times before, but are you aware that it applies to things as well as people? Let’s say for instance you decide to sell your house; the potential buyers arrive and what do they see? A battered door, and a rather dilapidated entrance to the house is what welcomes them, and while the inside may be an oasis of calm with tasteful décor and beautifully painted walls, the impression left with buyers is the first thing they see as they approached. And it sure wasn’t pretty. So, if your front door is looking a little like it’s seen better days, what can you do?

You’ve heard that first impressions count a million times before, but are you aware that it applies to things as well as people? Let’s say for instance you decide to sell your house; the potential buyers arrive and what do they see? A battered door, and a rather dilapidated entrance to the house is what welcomes them, and while the inside may be an oasis of calm with tasteful décor and beautifully painted walls, the impression left with buyers is the first thing they see as they approached. And it sure wasn’t pretty. So, if your front door is looking a little like it’s seen better days, what can you do?

Clearly, it’s a good time for you to consider investing in a new door, and if your house is a splendid example of beautiful architecture, then the door should match it. We think that there’s every reason you should consider investing in a bespoke door, because that way your door will be the welcoming, classy, tasteful and unique entrance your guests will love.

Why Bespoke?

A bespoke door can be designed according to your specifications, it can be made to fit in with the design of your home on the outside and compliment what’s inside too. Wood is a natural choice because there is a such a marvellous range of different woods. Hard wood is an excellent choice as is softwood. You can really play around with designs and add panels, filled in or with panes of glass if you need a little light. The aesthetic appeal of your door will work wonders for the outside of your house, and it will give you far more confidence in your home.

Functionality

As well as looking good, a new bespoke door will give you functionality on a variety of different levels. It will give you insulation, noise and privacy control and security, and all this will go a long way to creating a warm, safe environment that once you shut the door, allow you the peace and tranquillity to relax and unwind.

Security & Insulation

Good insulation means you can save on heating bills as you keep the cold out, meaning more heat stays inside. A good strong door not only gives you insulation, it also provides you with security from intruders, so you know that when the door is shut it stays shut and only opens to people you trust.

Noise and privacy

If you live on a main road you may get a lot of foot traffic and this may result in noise, the sound of people talking and rushing past. A good bespoke door created with the sole purpose of providing noise prevention will give you some relief from that, and you can certainly discuss your options with one of our team if you come to The Replacement Door Company. If you’re thinking of investing in new doors, then there’s a lot to consider before you buy. You have to consider your budget, you have to think about what kind of material you’re after and whether it will fit in with architectural style of your house. If your doors are internal, then you’ll need think about colour schemes and personal décor styles. Yes, there’s a lot to think about, but don’t worry, our post is going to consider the things you need to think about when investing in new internal doors.

Budget

We mentioned the things you need to consider and that included budget. When buying a door, you need to think about how much you can afford to spend. You may want to stay away from wooden doors if your budget is in the lower scale, timber can be expensive. However, don’t be disheartened by this, a door made from man made materials doesn’t have to be a cheap looking door. They can and often do look every bit as classy and luxurious as an oak or walnut door.

Soundproofing

Depending on where you live and how big your family is you may need to consider soundproofing. Perhaps you can hear too much of what’s going on in another room, or perhaps even outside. Doors won’t completely block out sound, but they may reduce the noise down considerably.

Style

You’ll need to think of an interesting way of providing a door to any one of the rooms in your house, depending on how many your replacing. If it’s just one, then it’s going to match the rest of the rooms in the house. If you’re going all out to replace doors throughout the entire house, then you’ll want the rooms to look stylish and in keeping with the theme/colours and general décor throughout the house. Not only will you want your doors to provide practicality and strength, you’ll naturally want your doors to look really stylish and stand out for all the right reasons.

Practicality

On the practicality level, you’re also looking at waterproofing for kitchens and bathrooms for obvious reasons, as these rooms will get the most moisture, and providing water resistance will prevent your doors from warping and cracked. You could even have glazed panels, and this may prevent water getting into the door.

We’ve already mentioned soundproofing and water resistance, other areas for consideration are light, privacy, ventilation and insulation. Once you’ve got that covered, you can think about the kind of style you want for your doors and how well they’ll fit in with the rest of your house.

The Replacement Door Company – for the most versatile range of internal doors in Scotland.

If you’re looking for internal doors that can do everything and look pretty amazing, then you want to pay a visit to The Replacement Door Company. No matter what you’re looking for from your doors we’ll have the answer, so get in touch.
