Internal Door Maintenance Tips
You’ve got those gorgeous internal doors and now you need to know how to keep them in the pristine condition they arrived in. It’s one thing getting your internal doors fitted and then standing back to admire how good they look, but how do you keep them like that?
Interiors doors are tough, but there are things you can do to keep them looking good
All modern interior doors have the technology to make them durable regardless of the material they’re made from. They can withstand knocking and pushing and all types of heavy use but if you want them to look as good as new all the time, then it’s essential to keep them clean.
Clean them regularly
Use a regular cleaning spray for the doors or soapy water, and then go over with a cloth afterwards. Make sure you dust all surfaces regularly and that should include both the sides of the door and the top of the door frame itself. Remember to clean the door handle/knob too, you can use an antibacterial wipe to do this.
Wear and tear over time can cause damage to the door and frame
However, no matter how durable doors are they can often come under enough stress to damage them slightly. Wear and tear is natural, but it’s good to keep on top of any repairs when you can.
As preventative measures to keep your doors in good condition, look out for the following:
Oil the hinges every now and again
Watch out for frames shifting or if it won’t close properly – could be the strike plate needs to be repositioned or filed
A door sticking could mean there are loose screws which need tightening
Make sure doors are sealed, painted or varnished, they may need this if they swell with humidity, which timber doors are prone to do.
