We’re talking about the mistakes which are made regularly when fitting internal doors, and we’re also going to be showing you how you can avoid them. Fitting a new door can be a frustrating exercise and if you’ve never done it before it can be littered with potential problems. Today however, we’re hoping to iron out most of them for you, so you can have a seamless fitting.

Once internal doors are fitted they can really give your room, or even your entire home, (depending on how many you’re having fitted) a real lift, so it’s always worth the time and effort in choosing and then buying your internal doors.

Door frames

After that initial rush of shopping and purchasing your doors, you then have to fit them on to the door frames. You want your doors to look as good as they did in the pictures and on the showroom floor. Any little mistake can make the difference to how it will eventually look, therefore spending time on the fitting is crucial if you don’t want to mess it up. Spend the time slowly and carefully, don’t rush through it and then have to take them down and go through the whole process again.

An open and shut case

Always consider how your door will open and close before you purchase. You’ll need to think whether or not you have enough space to accommodate the particular type of door you’ve chosen. Check the direction the door will take when it opens. If you do encounter problems with the opening and shutting of the internal door, then consider a left or right hang, this could make all the difference.

Measure with care

Measuring is always important, never guess, it’s important in getting the right fitting. Measure the frame and not the door that’s being taken down. In all likelihood you’ll need to trim the new door slightly, and as you can imagine there are risks involved.

Do things slowly and follow each step carefully

Follow some simple step by step instructions you can find online that explain clearly how to fit your door and all the fixtures and fittings. This is especially important if you’ve never done it before.

Why Choose Sliding Wardrobe Doors?

Thinking of replacing your wardrobes? If you are, you may currently have free standing ones, but are considering having sliding wardrobe doors installed. If you are we can think of a million reasons why you should. Because sliding doors are one of our most popular products, and we know how versatile they are and why so many people are choosing them for their homes.

Rather than come up with a million reasons, we’re going to be coming up with 5 solid reasons on why you should be investing in sliding wardrobe doors.

Oddly shaped spaces. Yes, no matter what kind of space your wardrobe door will be covering, a sliding wardrobe door will be able to slot into it nicely. If you have bespoke sliding wardrobe doors then they will easily cover any gaps and look great, and certainly not out of place at all.

Bespoke. You can also have a personalised design if it’s bespoke. You can choose to have your sliding doors exactly how you’d want them to be. Rather than just settle for standard storage and rails, you can create the kind of storage space that’s right for you. You may want more hanging room, or possibly more room to store shoes. You can even personalise the exterior with your own unique designs for both the doors and the windows.

Space. Yes, you’ll have more space because whether the doors are closed or open you’ll have more space to move around in because sliding doors don’t take up anywhere near as much room as traditional free-standing ones. No more having to worry about how much space is taken up when you open the doors to get some clothes. Plus, if you have more space inside, which you will, you can take what’s been cluttering the outside of your wardrobe and store inside your new wardrobe behind your sliding wardrobe doors.

Instant installation. You can install your sliding wardrobe doors anywhere. You could put them directly in front of a cupboard in your bedroom which can now act as an inlaid wardrobe, or in front of a cupboard under the stairs even, you could even use them downstairs in the living room in front of where you store your books.

Mirrors. Yes, if you want a mirror in your bedroom and you don’t know where to put one, then once you have your sliding wardrobe doors installed you can use a mirror by placing it on the outside or inside of your doors. You’ll have the added advantage of giving your room extra light and make the room look bigger than it really is if it’s on the small size.

The Replacement Door Company - Sliding Wardrobe Doors Expertise

If we’ve now got you convinced of the advantages of sliding wardrobe doors then why not take a look around our website, and if you have any questions just get in touch. We’re more than happy to guide you to the best ones for your room and we can even help you with having them fitted. Just pick up the phone and give us a call.

By having bespoke doors and windows installed in your home you are adding some extras to it that’ll give it that certain something. Bespoke anything really adds a unique and original edge to your home that allows it stand apart for all the right reasons.

What is Bespoke?

If you’re unfamiliar with what bespoke is, then basically it’s customised and made to order. You can even dictate the design yourself and this is good because you could have something no one else has. And this can be right down to the details, your specifications can be used in the final design.

Fancy Building Your Own Home?

If you come across the term custom built, you’ll find it means more or less the same thing but bigger, or more than one design, perhaps part of a larger project. Self-build usually means building a home from scratch and this can take many years to complete. However, you don’t have to go as far as building your house for something original. By simply adding bespoke doors and windows to your home, you can still have that element of originality.

What’s more it could add value to your property should you decide to sell in the future. It also adds something really special to your home, making it feel more like your own original space in which to relax.

Front Doors: Most Popular Colours

It would appear that the most popular colours are bright when it comes to front doors, and that’s great, but remember, any bright colour is going to have an overall impact on the rest of your home. Just make sure then that the colour you choose has been thought through and that it goes well with the general design, shape and look of your home.

It would appear that the most popular colours are bright when it comes to front doors, and that’s great, but remember, any bright colour is going to have an overall impact on the rest of your home. Just make sure then that the colour you choose has been thought through and that it goes well with the general design, shape and look of your home.

Yellow Front Doors

A bright, fresh colour that’s popular because it has so much cultural resonance, it’s not necessarily as popular here as it is in countries in the Far East such as China. In fact, yellow is associated with safety signs and warnings, but the energy it can bring to a home is well worth the effort if you’re daring enough to try it. It certainly deserves to be as popular here as it is in China, a bold and vibrant colour that will set you apart from the rest of the street!

Orange Front Doors

Comes in different shades and is found in leaves, vegetables and deciduous trees. It sits between yellow and red and can give a striking look to any entrance. It doesn’t have to be bright, it can be a subtler shade, and sit between pale or dark surroundings, allowing it to take central stage.

Blue Front Doors

A very popular colour and can have a very soothing effect. It’s usually to be found indoors as a rule for bathrooms and children’s bedrooms. It’s a colour that fits in just about anywhere and is extremely versatile. It is also considered a lucky colour, so whether you go for something more sombre, such as navy blue, or something more daring such as sky blue, your door will certainly look stylish!

Green Front Doors

A rival for that popular blue we’ve been talking about, it’s vibrant, and associated with nature and all that’s new and lush. It’s classic and full of personality and there are many different shades available, so you don’t have to be so bold if you don’t want to be, you can choose a more conservative shade if you like. Choose one you think goes well with the house, it’s surroundings and shows off the front of the house to best effect. Don’t worry if you think you’ve chosen the wrong shade, you can always paint over it with another colour.

The Replacement Door Company – Quality Front Doors

Take any one of these colours and give your door a new lease of life. You can go as bright or as dark as you like, and there are other shades we haven’t mentioned too like red or pink. We realise these are quite unconventional colours but again you can go as bright or as dark as you wish. You may find pink is a step to far for you, and red can be a sign of danger so you may not want to be that daring yet. If you’re looking to change your door, why not get in touch with us here at The Replacement Door Company and we’ll help you choose the right front door – and then you can paint it any colour you like.

Why Sustainable Timber is Vital For Your Doors

Today we’re talking about the importance of using sustainable timber for your wooden doors – why? Because we believe it’s important we all play a role in contributing towards protecting the environment. We all know that trees play an integral role in capturing Co2, and this is important because it’s Co2 that’s causing all the problems with an increase in the atmosphere. Co2 emissions are one of the biggest causes of global warming.

And yes global warming leads to climate change, so it’s important we all try to play our part, no matter how small a part that is. That’s why here at The Replacement Door Company we advocate the use of sustainable timber for all wooden doors.

What difference does sustainable timber make?

Co2 is captured by trees as they grow, and it’s locked away within the wood where it’s stored for the entire lifetime of the timber – whatever product it becomes. Sustainable timber then does a very important job in taking Co2 out of the atmosphere, and thus helps to reduce the impact of global warming on the planet.

What are the benefits to you of using sustainable timber?

You get better insulation because wood has great thermal properties, and this means that not only is your home kept warm in winter, it’s also kept cool in summer. Sustainable timber also helps the British economy by providing jobs in the timber processing and forestry industry. It takes less energy to produce products made of sustainable timber and due to its unique properties, you can create some beautiful designs. That way, you get to do your bit for the planet and you get beautifully crafted wooden doors.

Versatile as well as sustainable

Sustainable wood is extremely versatile and isn’t just used on doors. You can use sustainable timber for sheds, doors and sheet materials. You could have a suite of wooden doors that will last a lifetime, so you’ll get back what you invested over the years.

Finally, because sustainable timber is so important to the planet, forests are well managed and as a result, have a positive impact on biodiversity. This means that plants and animals are protected too. Look out for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a certification scheme which sets the highest standards for the use of sustainable timber.

The Replacement Door Company – Quality Doors Throughout Scotland

If you’re looking to invest in sustainable timber for your home, and you appreciate beautifully crafted wooden doors, get in touch with us here at The Replacement Door Company.

What Should You Consider When Purchasing an External Door

External doors have to put up with a lot as they face the outside world, the weather and the light, dust and grime from cars if you’re near a busy road, and of course they also have to double up as bodyguards, giving your home, your family, safety and security from the world outside.

Today, we’re looking at what you need to consider when purchasing an external door. That way, once you come to make a purchase you will have all you need to make a decision that makes sense, to your house, your needs and your wallet.

There’s a Lot To Think About When Choosing New Exterior Doors

When thinking about buying a door you need to consider what it’s made of and whether it will give you adequate protection. It needs to be able to withstand rain, wind and frost and also be strong enough so that it’s impossible to break in. Talk it over with your retailer about the best type of door that’s right for your home and incorporates all the features we’ve talked about. Remember that it needs to be able to insulate your home and prevent too much noise from coming in. This is especially important if you live near a busy road.

Style and Matching The Door To Your Home

You’ll also need to consider style as it needs to match the architectural design of your home. A modern door on a house with classic design will look odd and out of place, as will a classic door with a contemporary build. You want to marry the styles perfectly, so it complements the front or back of your house. At the front, people will see the entrance to your home before anything else and before you’ve had a chance to greet them and first impressions count. Make sure your door is up to the job and that it stylishly welcomes all who come to the door. The right door could make all the difference if you’re trying to sell your home, or you’re thinking of selling in the future. Think curb appeal.

Make Sure Your Door Fits Perfectly

You’ll need to make sure it’s fitted properly, the last thing you need is a poorly fitted door that doesn’t marry with the door frame well. This could lead to problems later on and cause security issues. If you don’t think you want to tackle it yourself ask someone who is experienced at doing this kind of thing, or a professional joiner.

The Replacement Door Company – For Superior Quality Doors Scotland

No matter what type of external doors you’re after, you want quality and superior craftsmanship, and with us, that’s exactly what you get. If you’re after first class, quality external doors for your home, then get in touch with us here at The Replacement Door Company because we can meet your exact requirements. Right Handed and Left-Handed Doors

If you’re installing doors yourself you may find the right hand and left-hand doors thing a little too hard to work out, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’re always here to help, and in this post, we’re going to talking about the right way to get it right first time.

If you’re installing doors yourself you may find the right hand and left-hand doors thing a little too hard to work out, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’re always here to help, and in this post, we’re going to talking about the right way to get it right first time.

Firstly, before you do anything, stand against the hinged side of your door jamb, with your back to it. If it opens to the right you’ll be safe to conclude this a right-handed door, and vice versa if it opens to the left.

There is something else you can try too and that’s standing facing the door this time on the side that swings away. This bit might seem a little strange (especially if you’re alone!) but hold up your hands and think of your wrists as hinges with your hands as the doors. If the right-hand swings with your wrists/hinges, then it’s a right-handed door and if your left hand and wrist match the left then it’s obviously a left-handed door.

If you’ve checked out our doors at The Replacement Door Company, then you may be still confused. This is because if you’re not ordering your doors in person but either online or on the phone it’ll be hard to work out what you need. You will be asked whether or not you want right handed doors or left-handed ones that swing either outward or inward. As you can imagine it’s probably better if you order your doors in person and discuss with a member of the team what kind of doors you’re looking for.

It’s important to consider which way the doors are going to open because you may have something inside or outside the door that will cause an obstruction and make it difficult to open and shut the door.

The Replacement Door Company – For The Best In First Class Doors In Scotland

This is why here at The Replacement Door Company for we take the time to make sure all our customer’s doors are a perfect fit. You need doors but perhaps you’ve only been thinking of timber external doors. There are alternatives to wood and composite is a more than excellent one. If you’re yet to be convinced, then today our post might make you feel differently about this versatile material. We’re going to be talking about the benefits of composite doors so read on and hopefully you’ll be convinced by the time you’ve finished reading.

Composite Doors Can Look Every Bit as Authentic and Stylish as a Traditional Timber Door

Afraid they look cheap? Well, you couldn’t be more wrong, if you give your composite door a woodgrain exterior you’ll have a traditional looking door but with modern materials. We have a versatile range of designs here at The Replacement Door Company therefore you’re more than likely to get an expensive looking door but for less.

Functional and Durable

Composite doors are a great choice because they’re both functional and durable, and very strong. They come with a foam core which acts as an insulator and combined with a really strong outer frame, they make for strong and reliable doors. If you’re looking for a door that will give you sound and energy insulation as well as security, then a composite door is by far the best choice.

Great Insulation So You’re Always Warm and Cosy

As we’ve already mentioned composite doors are great insulators, heat can’t escape and cold can’t get inside so you’ll not only have a warm home, you’ll also have cheaper energy bills. You’ll have a warm, secure home that keeps the cold out and the warmth inside as well as providing a strong exterior protection from potential burglars.

Forget The Noise

Because composite doors are so strong they can block out a substantial amount of noise as well as keeping the cold out. Therefore, if you live in a busy street, and with heavy foot traffic, then a composite door is the answer. Noise is significantly reduced so you can have a quiet home devoid of loud noises from traffic and footfall.

The Replacement Door Company – For Stylish, Good Quality Composite Doors Scotland

Have we got you convinced? We certainly hope so, and you’ll be pleased to know that here at The Replacement Door Company, we have a versatile and stylish range of composite doors, you can have them plain for you to paint yourself at home, or you can have them ready made and ready to fit. Interior Design Trends in 2018

Today we’re taking a look at interior design trends for 2018, so if you’re thinking of buying some interior doors within the next few weeks or months, then this post should be helpful. We always like to keep our customers in the know when it comes to particular styles or trends.

Getting all the elements right isn’t easy, and whatever theme or set of ideas you go with, you want your doors to play an integral part in all of that. Interior doors don’t have to be added as an afterthought though, they can give your home that full stop to every room that helps complete the overall look, giving your home a seamless finish.

Bold Colours

Colours are big in 2018, so if you’ve been into neutral colour so far, will you be daring enough to choose something bolder? You could keep your walls a light colour but choose doors which add a splash of colour. Blues, greens and reds are all possible and could give your rooms a certain vibrancy. Add accessories in equally bold colours and create something that bit more daring.

Mixed Finishes, Wood and Metals

Mixed finishes are going to be in vogue this year, with metals and wood, or different types of metals all working together. You could have some solid wooden doors and have copper, bronze accessories, or brass and gold, something which compliments the wood grain in the doors.

Make Your Room a Haven of Peace, a Place That Makes you Feel Good

There’s going to be more originality in interiors too this year, with a move away from generic rooms, with ideas taken from magazines and based more on personal taste. It’ll be all about how a room makes you feel, not about how it looks to other people. So, choose doors that match your room and your personality, and how you want them to make you feel, rather than whether they match a particular theme.

Vintage Accessories

Vintage accessories are going to be in. This could be anything from a few little showpieces to one large centrepiece. Which era will you choose? Perhaps you’re going to go with art deco or maybe Victorian? You could have vintage doors or reproduced, something with a touch of the era you’re working with. Keep everything else modern if you wish, you don’t have to have an entire room or the rest of your home exactly the same.

Replacement Door Company – For Quality on Trend Doors Scotland

If you’re looking to change your interior doors to fit in with any new trends for 2018, then you couldn’t do better than visit us here at the Replacement Door Company for we have an excellent range of doors to fit every style.

Things to Consider Before Investing in New Doors

Having new internal doors throughout your home can really lift the entire house without redecorating or refurnishing, therefore choosing well is important. Today we’re going to be talking about what you should consider before investing in new doors. As well as being aesthetically pleasing you want doors which are practical and suited to your home’s architectural design and décor. You want doors which enhance each room and the use of space.

How Durable Will Your Doors Be?

How long a door lasts or how durable it is will largely depend on how often it’s used. And, of course, the room it enters, if it is either a kitchen or bathroom you will need doors with specific materials to repel water and humidity. Rooms such as these may benefit from glass panels rather than solid materials throughout.

Style and Design Are Key Considerations

Keep in mind the type of property you live in, whether it’s mysteriously Victorian Gothic or thoroughly modern and minimalist, you’ll need to choose doors which fit in with the overall style of the property. If you choose something minimal for an ornately designed home, then it’s going to look out of place and vice versa.

What Type of House Do You Have?

Consider then the period your home was built and what may have been popular at that time. It could be something Victorian, Georgian or 1930s art deco. You can get modern versions, or you could go for something original from the particular period you’re searching for.

What is Your Budget?

Something else to factor in is your budget, going for a period door may not be an option if you have less to spend. You may have to go for a door that mimics the style you’re looking for but is made from cheaper materials. This isn’t such a bad thing, contemporary made doors are often made from sturdy material, just because it isn’t wood doesn’t mean it won’t be as durable.

Will You Be Needing Soundproofing?

Also, think about soundproofing. This is an important consideration, depending on the size of your family, you may have different people in other parts of the house listening to music, or playing an instrument, or playing computer games. You may also want soundproof doors for reasons of privacy too.

Replacement Doors Company For The Best in Quality Internal Doors, Scotland.

No matter what the style of your house, or whether you need moisture resistant doors or soundproofing, here at The Replacement Door Company we have something for everyone. We believe that our versatile range of doors will suit everyone’s tastes and needs wherever they live.
